For the Metro competition that I sent my pigeons into I won a 'Highly Commended' prize as they really liked it and I got £100!

Skull-a-day entry

I sent my illustration for the Perfume cover into the skull-a-day website (check the site out it is awsome) and they published my entry!

Penguin Design Award

Here is my entry for designing the cover for the book Perfume by Patrick Suskind for the Penguin Design Award. The illustration is made from the actual book. The flowers types are all mentioned in the book when the main character is trying to find the perfect scent and the skull and torn paper represent the 'skin tearingly graphic' death in the final chapter.

Nottingham and Liverpool pigeons

I have photographed my metro pigeons in Nottingham and Liverpool and have got some great shots of them in some well known locations. All the photos are on my cargo site.

Metro Re-create

My entry for the Metro Re-Create competition 2010. I created a flock of pigeons ( yes I know, more birds) and covered them in sections of the Metro. I then photographed them in the Chester train station and around the city itself. The public showed a lot of interest with many asking about the birds and the use of the Metro. I am going the continue the project and photograph the birds in other cities and locations.

Caldecott Brief. The Jackdaw and the Doves

The piece of work I submitted for the Caldecott Competition. I used the story 'The Jackdaw and the Doves' by Randolph Caldecott. A crow disguises himself as a dove by covering himself in paint, he then lives with the doves until he lets out an 'almighty creak' and they kick him out of their cote. He goes back to the other jackdaws but they don't recognise him so they wont accept him either.
I have created the birds by hand out of maps of Chester, then I digitally compiled them before adding computer and hand lettering.

Tattoo inspired bird illustrations

Tattoo inspired elements combined with my bird observation drawings. Hand-drawn with digitally added colour. I was baring in mind that these designs could screen print well so I have used colourings that would work well on grey mount board. I am going to be exploring cards, bags and tshirts with these designs so will hopefully be appearing on my etsy shop soon!

St Valentine Day birds

These birds are based on an old bird related tradition of St Valentine's Day. Each bird is hand made from paper. For the Manchester Artists book fair on the 7the November I sold a book of postcards containing the photographs of the birds and an individual paper bird for £7. I sold a fantastic number and really enjoyed the experience of the fair. In fact I spent most of my profit buying other people's work from the fair! I am continuing to make these birds for commissions and for further craft fairs, as well as expanding the paper bird idea into other pieces of work.

A series of books based on the apple traditions associated with St valentine's Day, including twisting the stem and singing boys names, letting the peel fall into a letter shape and counting the seeds. Each book is made from a paper cast of a real apple with found materials to decorate.
